About
Mark Hendrickson is a luthier and inventor of the Modular Electric Guitar (MEG) and the Modular Acoustic Guitar.
Playing and repairing guitars for over 50 years, Mark Hendrickson still enjoys his daily routine that includes a couple of hours of solitude practice with his guitars. As an Authorized Service Center for C. F. Martin Guitars since 1992, one of only three in Minnesota, Mark takes guitars and attention to detail very seriously. Taking about seven years to build, Mark's first guitar was an exercise in patience, persistence, and problem solving. Not only was he learning the craft, but building special tools along the way in order to get the shape and bright sound he was looking for. Like others that have found their life's purpose, Mark couldn't stop at building just one guitar—no matter how long it took. Since his first completed guitar in 1981, Mark has built over 100 handmade acoustic and electric guitars. The idea for a Modular Electric Guitar came when Mark was working as a speech pathologist with a young man who spent most of his waking day in a wheelchair. The young man was interested in playing the guitar and wanted to try one of Mark's custom guitars. The shape of a typical guitar didn't allow for flexibility for this young man to play in his wheelchair. Mark created a new design—one that allowed the neck and the body of the guitar to be interchangeable—a guitar design that would fit perfectly and enable the young man to play this instrument while sitting in his wheelchair—the MEG. With MEG's unique design, we can make adaptive, low impact instruments for hospital beds, wheelchairs or practically any adaptive equipment. In 2001, Mark Hendrickson was awarded a patent for his revolutionary invention, the Modular Electric Guitar (MEG). After ten years and almost 20,000 invested hours, the MEG has reached maturity in the Transformer guitars. We are seeking manufacturers and distributers for its MEG components.
